BWSL Meeting Minutes

3/1/07

  1. All women’s teams had a representative present. All but 2 coed teams had a representative present. Since the meetings are not mandatory for coed teams, it was suggested and agreed upon that next season we would require coed teams to have a representative present as well.
  2. Bania had several things she wanted to discuss:
    1. There was a vote for meetings to be held during the week instead of game days; majority voted to have the meetings on Thursdays at 7:30pm at Theresa’s house.
    2. Nikki is resigning as President and Lauren is resigning as Secretary. Bania agreed to step up to President, Jen Reeves was nominated as President; It was suggested and agreed upon that Bania, as current VP, would step up as interim President, Jen would be the interim VP, and Erin would be the interim Secretary, with Jamie as the co-Secretary when Erin was not present (since she frequently travels for work). It was agreed that we would have official elections for all board positions in August. An official announcement would be posted on the website in June/July, along with the duties of each position, and open the floor up for nominations.
  3. Several issues were brought up regarding the referees. Derrick agreed to all and would pass on to fellow refs:
    1. Refs MUST check for shin guards and cards before every game!
    2. Ok for sport-approved knee braces to be worn during the games.
    3. Ok for a team captain to request a water break, IF

                                                               i.      The request is made directly to the head ref, AND

ii.      The request is made BEFORE the game starts.

The decision to allow a water break would be at the ref’s discretion.

    1. It was agreed that all reps would tell their teams that players are absolutely NOT allowed to talk to the ref (with the exception of the captain). Anyone talking back to the ref will get carded.
    2. No sliding PERIOD. Not just slide tackling, but no sliding whatsoever. Derrick to tell refs.
    3. Refs to report ANY injury if player has to leave the field. The ref should make a note on the back of the game report. If a serious injury (911 is called) ref MUST fill out a full report. This is for insurance purposes – a player is not able to get reimbursed unless there is a referee’s record of the injury.
  1. Luddy brought up that there are no penalty marks on the fields. Last weekend Ravens were playing Pink Flamingos and a PK was called against Ravens. The ref put the ball down (without stepping off), Raven’s GK asked the ref to step it off because she felt it was too close. The ref supposedly said that if she wants him to step it off and he was correct with the placement that he would issue her a yellow card. The ref stepped it off, was close, and proceeded to give the GK a yellow card. He asked for her name and she said he could figure it out that she was the only GK on the roster and he gave her a second yellow for dissent. Ravens want to appeal the 1st yellow (not the 2nd).
    1. It was decided that Trudy would send Chris an email and ask him to put a PK mark on all our fields so this doesn’t happen again.
    2. Ravens rep/GK needs to write a letter ASAP to Kim, arbitrations rep, to appeal the 1st yellow.
  2. Alex from AIE (?) had a player play coed last week without a player’s pass. He knows the rules because last season he tried to play a player without a pass and the player was not allowed to play. The consensus was that the team might have to pay $25 for breaking the rules before the next game. Debbie is going to read the bylaws and take charge on this issue.
  3. Every team MUST send the game stats to Jose via EMAIL (please do not give him handwritten reports) by Wed. If they aren’t sent, they will not get posted.
  4. Webmaster is responsible for updating BOTH the women’s and coed sites. It was brought up that the webmaster should get paid more, but since Jose wasn’t there, nothing was decided.
  5. It was discussed whether or not we should keep stats for coed and have prizes. If we do make it more competitive it means we can’t pick up players from other teams when we are short (to guard against stacking a team). It was decided that we would leave it as is this season, and make it more competitive possibly next season (to give teams a chance to pick up additional players in case of no shows). However, it was agreed that if the coed teams wanted to keep stats and email to Jose, then we would post them on the website.
  6. It was decided that ALL teams must have MATCHING uniforms with a number on back. Any team that does not have a full set of uniforms needs to order enough to ensure the entire team has an official uniform. It was decided we would give the teams a couple weeks or so to get full uniforms. In the interim, same color shirts with at the very least taped numbers on the back would suffice.
  7. Any new team coming into the league and any team wishing to buy new uniforms MUST wear a color not currently being worn by another team – since we spend a lot of money on our uniforms, we should be able to wear them every game.
  8. After the meeting was over Jamie brought up an issue that occurred last Sunday regarding heckling from the sidelines and using fowl language directed at players (apparently Fury players were heckling Beavers players). This is not acceptable, will be discussed with the refs, and put on the agenda for the next meeting.
  9. The next meeting will be Thursday, March 29 at 7:30pm at Theresa’s house. Please email any agenda items ahead of time to Bania, albania_macrae@bellsouth.net so that she can develop an agenda with time allotments so the meeting doesn’t run too long.
